Has anybody got Mass Effect 2 yet? I spent my entire weekend playing it and completed it on the Monday, best 3 days of my life, EVER! It, to say the very least, is an amazing game. The story is fantastic, the graphics are stunning and the game play is awesome. I feel that it's a mixture of Gears of War and Mass Effect 1 with extra features added in. However I've run into a few instances of "elevator" glitches, the first of which I found (on the planet Korlus) made it impossible to continue as I was unable to get down, however it had, luckily, autosaved moments prior to the glitch. I found it too easy to get credits and was always able to buy something I needed (which was rare as credits don't play a huge part in this game) although getting upgrades requires using resources, which are found by scanning planets or during missions, and these upgrades are quite expensive sometimes. The combat system is much better than the first game except for how powers work, instead of having to wait for individual powers to cool down before you can reuse them, if you use a power you must wait for it cool down before you can use any power again, grenades have been removed from the game and have been replaced by "heavy weapons" which are powerful weapons that require heavy ammo to use, these range from a grenade launcher to a particle beam but there are only 5 of them that I'm aware of (grenade launcher, 2 missile launchers, a flamethrower and a particle beam). Unlike the first Mass Effect game you don't have unlimited ammo but your weapons don't overheat, you need to pickup thermal clips (which is pretty much just ammo tbh) and once you've used all the shots up there's less than a second reload time unlike the very long cool down time from the first game. Powers are also set out differently, squad members begin with 2 powers and once you've upgraded one of the powers to level 2 they gain a third power and to gain their fourth power you must complete a side quest for the individual characters, doing this quest also unlocks an alternate costume for the character,

The plot for the game is amazing, human colonies in the Terminus System are disappearing and, as they're outside of Alliance space, the Alliance are doing nothing whatsoever to help. Due to this Shepard allies him/herself with Cerberus to tackle this new threat to the human race
Code:
it may seem strange to Mass Effect 1 players that Shepard is working with Cerberus, as they're a terrorist organization in the first game. But as Shepard dies in the very beginning of the game and is brought back to life by Cerberus (Mass Effect science is amazing, right?) so they were able to talk to him/her without s/he ignoring them completely
so Shepard must gather a crack team of professionals and psychotics to take the fight to the new threat's, the Collectors, home, everybody thinks this is a suicide mission as the only way to get there is by going through the Omega 4 Mass Relay, which no ship has ever returned from.
THE FINAL BATTLE: BIG SPOILER-
Code:
Shepard takes his/her team to the Collector home world, where they are building a Reaper, a human Reaper (Reapers take the form of the species used to build them as they are not entirely mechanic, they are part organic), after fighting their way through the swarms of Collectors, possibly losing squad mates in the process, Shepard discovers the monstrous Reaper "embryo" who s/he shoots down from the supports and sets the home "world" (it's really a space station) to either explode, destroying the station completely, OR to release a radioactive explosion, killing everything inside but preserving the science contained within. Once this has been done Shepard and his team turn to leave but the "embryo" pulls itself back up and Shepard must destroy it (I found this really easy all you have to do is shoot it in the eyes until it dies) Shepard and the remaining crew then escape from the exploding space station and return to the Terminus System

What I think is a great improvement to the first game is that, once completed, you can continue playing to finish side quests and the sort. However I don't like the removal of the Mako and having no vehicles that are controllable (although I've head that Bioware are releasing DLC that provides a vehicle.

Characters:
Shepard: Shepard is main character, the one that's playable, having saved the galaxy from the Reaper threat two years prior to the events of Mass Effect 2 Cerberus believe that Shepard is the only person capable of saving them from this new threat.
Jacob: An ex-Alliance military operative now working for Cerberus, has some biotic powers as well as technical abilities, is the first the squad mate met in the game, was fed up by how the Alliance operated so left to join Cerberus.
Miranda: Genetically engineered by her father, Miranda oversaw the Lazarus project
Code:
the project to bring Shepard back to life
she ran away from her father who was trying to control her and thought of her only as a "legacy" and not a daughter, has strong biotic abilities.
Garrus: Garrus is a returning character from Mass Effect 1, with biotic abilities as well as prowess with a sniper rifle. In Mass Effect to begin with he is a officer with Citadel Security (or C-sec for short) who was fed up with the beaurocracy of the Citadel so joined Shepard's group to fight Saren. In this game he's found fighting three large mercenary. groups on the Omega space station under the guise of Archangel and agrees to join Shepard once again for the suicide mission.
Mordin: Mordin is a Salarian doctor who was a member of the salarian special forces in his youth, he's a biotic user. He too is found on Omega treating those affected by a plague in the poorer district of Omega, you must put a cure into the air to recruit him.
Grunt: Grunt is a tank bred "pure" Krogan created by the Krogan scientist (Krogan scientist, that doesn't sound right :P) Okeer, on the planet Korlus, Shepard is originally sent to recruit Okeer himself but ends up taking Grunt with him/her after an "incident" with the head of the facility s/he infiltrated to find Okeer. Grunt doesn't have to be taken out of the tank and for the entirety of the game be left in the cargo hold but letting him out is a great idea as he's amazingly strong, using shotguns and assault rifles as well as ammo powers and and the concussive shot power (similar to the shotgun power from the first game, turning the shot into a missile of sorts)
Jack/Subject Zero: Experimented on as a child by Cerberus to be the most powerful biotic user ever, Jack has been turned into a psychotic sadist, revelling in killing her opponents, she's found in an orbital prison that Shepard finds his/herself a new member of, after the warden's betrayal. She is a very powerful biotics user.
Zaeed: One of the Galaxy's most infamous bounty hunters, Zaeed joins Shepard's crew (after the player has downloaded the DLC from the Cerberus Network) after being paid a large sum of credits by Cerberus. Similar to Grunt in abilities except for the type of ammo power and the loyalty power, Zaeed is the only character, other than the default squad of Jacob and Miranda, that requires no quest of any kind for him to join.
Thane: A Drell assassin who is dying from a terminal illness, he agrees to join Shepard's squad to find a purpose in life and atone for his past misdeeds. Thane has powerful close combat biotics and is skilled with a sniper rifle
Tali: Tali is a Quarian, the race that created the Geth (the main enemies of Mass Effect), who must remain in enviro-suits at all times due to their weak immune systems, she is a returning character from Mass Effect. Tali is a tech specialist and is best suited to fighting synthetic enemies.
Samara: Samara is an Asari Justicar, a highly revered order who uphold justice throughout the galaxy, usually using lethal force. She is a very powerful biotic user and, in my opinion, has more powerful and useful biotic powers.
Legion:
Code:
Legion is a Geth, similar in abilities to Tali, he is recruited after Shepard saves his body from a derelict Reaper after Legion had saved their lives

The Collectors: The Collectors are the main antagonists of Mass Effect 2, they've been abducting human colonies MAJOR SPOILER:
Code:
The Collectors are actually indoctrinated Protheans!

The Illusive Man: The Illusive man is the head of Cerberus, he's the one that gives Shepard almost all the information used in the mission.

I love this game even more, except for the lack of Mako (but at least there's probably gonna be a similar thing in the DLC), I have never been as addicted to a game as I was to ME2, and I liked the elevator loading screens, you got some funny convos going on in there, but the ones without were boring, this one just has boring old loading screens that have a tip that's pretty obvious like most games do. If you have both Garrus and Tali in your party and you go to the Citadel at one point Garrus will start a conversation about the elevator conversations, Tali gets annoyed and threatens him with a shotgun XD I actually ROFL'd
